I know it’s probably warm and sunny at home but try to remember the simple beauty of hills and valleys covered in snow.

Good Morning

I’ve been asleep for almost a whole month! My lovely hosts and inhabitants of Dekilite are the hibernating type, and once I finished my snow scape sketches and realized everyone around me was asleep I decided to rest my eyes. I guess Slumber took a strong hold of me because my cat nap turned out to be a big bear snooze!
Now that I am awake and refreshed let me tell you a little more about Dekilite. This planet is currently full of snow and is like this for the majority of the year. It would be like having a slow, constant, small flurry storm from about the beginning of September to the middle of April back home. When the snow finally decides that it has dumped enough in stops and signals The Melt to come forward. For a couple days up to two weeks all the snow melts, floods all the valleys, and brings a beautiful Summer. The constant snow and The Melt force the people that live here to remain in underground caverns for most of the year, which is why they have become hibernators. However, when the warm season has come they move life back to the hills and valleys where they farm, camp, celebrate and enjoy the fresh air. The main reason I decided to stop here on Dekilite was to experience living in the caves for a little while and to attend the huge festival that quickly follows The Melt. Most of the Dekilites are still snoring, squeaking, or murmuring in slumber, except for a few of the elders. They say they know when The Melt is near because they dreamed about it, which means it’s time to wake up and start preparing for the move out and the festival. Strangely enough I actually had dreams about puddle jumping right before I woke up.
Well I must get going, I offered to help with some planning for the festival, and I have a couple doodles to tend to. I’ll leave you with my newest snowscape until next time.

Whitewashed

Well, it has been a couple weeks since I have been able to do an update, but the time has finally come. For a couple days I wanted to focus on just driving because it is a long distance between here and MIrador. I landed safely and soundlessly on this snow covered planet, and it did not take long until my ride was also covered in snow. I guess I’ll be staying here a little longer than planned. No worries, I have some very good hosts who welcome me to stay as long as I need, and assure me that it will not be long until the snow melts.
This planet, called Dekilite, is rather hard to navigate this time of year with snow being the only thing in sight, so, it took a few days of hiking to finally find what I was looking for. Also a few days of rest and relaxation was in order once I reached my destination.
So that is where I’ve been ... where have you been?

Adrift

Just wanted to share one of my trumpet 'portraits', so you could see the last bit of my series about Mirador before I start sharing the next planet. I have been spending lots of time taking in the silence during the days, after the wonderful alarm of gorgeous trumpeting, searching for the source. Everyday I take a walk into the woods, venturing a little farther from camp than the day before. I have come to accept that my eyes are not playing tricks on me (whether that is true or not) and have been paying close attention to those shifting colors behind the giant white tree trunks. I still have yet to see one in its entirety but I am pretty sure they are large, floating, plant like creatures. Of what I can see, they are beautiful. It seems that they appear more and more often as the days go on (I think they are curious), but they continue to keep their distance. Maybe they are growing more comfortable with my presence.
Since I have had a lot of quiet time, I have been working on some drawings. Here is a small snippet of something I am working on.

Dollie Valentines

Check out the new Dollie Valentines! I woke up the morning after my last update to the most beautiful sound I have ever heard. Glorious trumpeting as the sun rose! I wish I had audio recording equipment. It was indescribable!
I have been camping out at the edge of this forest for the past couple days just observing, trying to find the source of these mysterious morning songs. When the first light brakes over the horizon the sound creeps softly in to my ears, and makes a nest, as if it had been there forever. But with only about half an hour to bask in the trumpeting sunrise soundtrack, it quiets so seamlessly into nothing that I question whether I really heard it at all. I must find where the sound is coming from, but I must admit I am a bit nervous to enter this forest. Everything is so still and calm during the day, and every tree is white like snow, it would be very easy to get lost. Occasionally, I see flickers of color sneaking between the huge trunks, but I am almost certain it is my eyes playing tricks on me.
For now I will continue to camp, observe, and sketch until I collect enough courage to see what is inside the white woods.

Up Ahead. Time for Bed.

After spending a few days here I have made a discovery. In the distance I can finally see something other than the night sky's desert sand. I am still a long walk away, but there seems to be a forest ahead. All the trees are clean white. It is hard to tell how tall the trees are since I am still a good distance away, but I get the feeling they are bigger than any tree I have seen back on Earth. It seems that I landed on the complete opposite side of the planet as this forest I am approaching. It also seems that this forest may be the only form of any life that exists on this planet called Mirador. So, I guess my plan is to rest up so I can explore this forest tomorrow with a fresh mind. Finally, I made it to my first destination!

This planet is pretty big, and rather sparse. Its like a desert here, but the ground is a strange purplish, blueish, blackish color, almost like it reflects the dark night sky. The complete lack of light pollution makes this place great to lay on your back and stare at the stars. Plus, the soil is amazingly soft! It is like the finest sand you can imagine. One thing that has particularly caught my interest is an eerie stillness that hangs over everything. It is eerie, but strangely comforting, it is going to be a great night's sleep! I have not met any living creatures yet, and from what fellow travelers say no one really lives here, they just visit. The maps say this planet is called Mirador, but everyone I talk to calls it Miracle Mouth. I am not quite sure why, but apparently I will know soon, or at least that is what people tell me.

I am sure as I spend a couple more days here I will have a lot more to talk about. In the mean time check out the new moon cards at my Esty shop!

Happy New Year

Wow! So it is 2010! I missed the partying due to my travels but I was able to get a good look at that gorgeous blue moon. I decided to take a break from updates the past two weeks because I figured most people wanted to relax and spend time with family and friends, but my journey is still upward and onward.
As some may have noticed, I have been a little obsessed with moons lately. Well, during the holidays I decided to take a break from driving and spend a few days with all the moons around Saturn and Jupiter. A lot of them are huge but some of them are cute, small, and fun to bounce around on. So, of course after some doodling I came up with some small prints.
The little bouncy moons were so much fun, and should be shared with lots of people ... so I decided to put these prints on cards. Funny little moon doodles to share with your friends and family you missed over the holiday season, wished you could have hugged when the clock struck twelve, or want to thank for that awesome gift or meal. Here is a peek ... they will be in my shop soon!

New Moon Schmoon Moon

My small moon series is now up for sale in my Etsy shop! Some songs are favorites from the past ten years and others are new loves ...

1. Babys by Bon Iver

2. Mirador by Efterklang

3. 2 Rights Make 1 Wrong by Mogwai

4. Moonchild by M83 (very appropriate names for this mix)

5. Kid A by Radiohead

6. The Moon by The Microphones

7. Cut Up Piano & Xylophone by Fridge

8. Clangour and Flutes by Sin Fang Bous

9. Seoul by Amiina

10. Once A Shiny Morning Puddle by Múm

11. Undo by Björk

12. Gong by Sigur Rós

13. Passing & Galloping by Mice Parade

14. Invisible by Grouper

Wow, I just realized there is a big block of Icelanders from number eight to number twelve. I guess they are just really good at creating cold, nighttime music in Iceland. If you have any or all of these songs I highly recommend you make yourself a play list including your own favorite chilly, sparkly tunes and take it for a midnight drive on some country roads, or even better, for an evening stroll. If you are brave enough to face the cold in person, make sure you have some hot cocoa or a nice warm bourbon waiting for you at home. Keep warm!

Goodnight Moon.

Holiday Craft Sale

Everyone in and around the Soho area should stop by the Divine Studios to check out the Holiday Craft Sale! I think because it is getting dark earlier and earlier each day I have been paying more attention to the moon and stars. Of course I have always admired them, but for this past month or so I have been dreaming about them too. Those planets like Saturn and Jupiter are lucky to have more than one moon. But I fear that if Earth had more than one we would not fully appreciate her beauty, or perhaps take her for granted. A lot of my recent doodles have been about spending time around the moon and the different light you could encounter. Here are some sneak peeks of some prints that I have developed from my doodles:

The three prints that these detail shots come from will be for sale soon. She was a very curious girl who chose to take an optimistic and romantic approach to life. (If her eyes were not quite so big, she would never be caught without rose colored glasses.)
